Introducing our Pub of the Week - the excellent Thatched House in Exeter.
The Thatched House has all the hallmarks of a traditional country pub (including a thatched roof, rather obviously!), but is just a stone's throw from the heart of Exeter. The Thatched House is a destination in itself, but also makes a good refreshment stop if you're having a walk along the River Exe (you could always park close to Exeter's historic quayside district, then have a pleasant 20 minute stroll upriver towards Exwick, where you'll find the Thatched House).
Real ales, real food, and real fires are at the heart of what the Thatched House is about - coupled with a really warm welcome. You'll be able to avail yourself of a well kept pint of Jail Ale, while you peruse the menu of nicely presented pub classics (great value, with starters from around £5 and main courses from around £10). The chef places great emphasis on using local produce - even down to negotiating with local allotment-holders for fabulously fresh fruit and veg in exchange for beer!
The Thatched House is dog-friendly and family-friendly, and has a lovely big outdoor space for the warm Summer evenings. There's a popular quiz night on a Tuesday, and an excellent Sunday carvery with all the trimmings for just over £10.
Pop along to the Thatched House Inn, for a taste of the country not far from the city!
