We're back in the heart of Dartmoor for a spotlight on our latest Pub of the Week - The Horse, in the bustling and picturesque moorland town of Moretonhampstead.
You'll find The Horse right in the centre of town, and it makes a perfect refuelling stop on a day out on the moors, with high moorland, rugged tors and the stunning Teign Valley all close by.
The Horse has a real sense of style to it - full of contemporary design touches, yet still showing off the historic features of this lovely old building. A rustic bar, squashy leather sofas, a roaring fire when it's chilly, and a light-flooded courtyard restaurant, all add to the appeal of the place.
Hosts Nigel and Malene serve an excellent pint of Legend from the Dartmoor Brewery stable, with our lighter (but still deeply satisfying) Dartmoor IPA also making an appearance from time to time.
Whilst The Horse is definitely the kind of pub where you can happily just pop in for a pint, you'd be missing out if you didn't have a bite to eat from the imaginative menu of informal (but top-notch) dining options. Mention The Horse to anyone locally, and they'll probably rave about the excellent hand-made pizzas. But there's plenty more on offer too, with Dartmoor beef and lamb, and Westcountry fish and seafood featuring prominently. The pizzas start from around a tenner, and main courses on the evening menu are also sensibly priced from around £13 up.
The kitchen is open from Tuesday to Sunday (just pizzas on Sunday evening).
Get out and enjoy Dartmoor this Summer - and try out The Horse for yourself. You'll be glad you did!
