We're off to a particularly lovely part of South Devon for our latest Pub of the Week - the Wild Goose Inn, Combeinteignhead.
This pretty country inn is at the heart of the village, and as a family-owned pub it offers a great line-up of real ales on tap, and a modern British outlook on food.
Look out for our Jail Ale and Legend on the bar, perhaps best enjoyed in the leafy garden on a warm Summer's day, or in front of the welcoming open fire when it turns chilly.
You're bound to be tempted by the menus, which show the creative flair of the chef and the Wild Goose's passion for fresh, local, seasonal ingredients.
At lunchtime you can expect hearty country-inn classics, brought to life with extra twists. The hand-carved ham and brace of eggs comes with delectable beef dripping chips, and the ale battered fish is sure to please. For real comfort food, the fish finger sandwich with tartar and watercress is a star! The lunch menu is excellent value, with choices averaging around the £10 mark.
In the evenings, the menu becomes more intricate (but still at good-value prices). You'll find local Galmpton mussels (as a starter or main), rump of lamb, a supreme of guinea fowl, glazed venison loin, and plenty of other tempting choices including creative vegetarian options.
Combeinteignhead itself is an appealing little village for a stroll around. The village church and Almshouses are worth looking out for, and there is fishing nearby on the River Teign. It's a short drive to the coast at Shaldon and Teignmouth, making the Wild Goose a perfect spot for a little refreshment or a bite of lunch on a day out in this scenic part of South Devon.
The Wild Goose is a favourite local pub, and as a Silver award winner in the South Devon and English Riviera Hospitality and Tourism Awards 2017, the hosts' attention to good beers, good food and warm hospitality is there for all to see.
