Dartmoor is a stunning place to escape the day-to-day, particular if outdoor pursuits are your thing, and the Dartmoor Rescue Group does an incredible job in keeping people safe on the moor. We're delighted to have been able to help them out with a new radio repeater to improve their communications across Dartmoor's rugged terrain.
The new radio repeater was handed over to Dartmoor Rescue Group's Richard Thorne MBE by Dartmoor Brewery MD Richard Smith as part of our ongoing sponsorship of the group.
The new repeater is capable of handling both traditional analogue signals and the latest digital transmissions.
"Efficient communications are an integral part of Search and Rescue on Dartmoor and are constantly being improved and upgraded and we're very grateful to Dartmoor Brewery for their support", said Alec Collyer MBE (Chairman Dartmoor Rescue Group).
The Dartmoor Rescue Group is comprised of four independent teams based around the moor at Okehampton, Ashburton, Tavistock and Plymouth. In addition to moorland rescues, coming to the aid of walkers and other moor users, the group's volunteers provide a 24/7 service every day of the year to assist Devon and Cornwall Police throughout the force area. Search and rescue operations encompass Moorland rescues, flooding response, search for vulnerable persons, Alzheimer's sufferers, despondent persons and missing children.
