Tavistock’s annual Goose Fair (or Goosey Fair as it’s known locally) is a local institution - and you'll find us there all day showcasing our fine Dartmoor ales.
Goose Fair (Wednesday 10th October 2018) is one of the West Country’s best known fairs, and it has its origins in the Michelmas Fair of the 12th Century - a fair which included a roaring trade in geese, bought from the market to be fattened in time for Christmas.
Today the whole town of Tavistock makes way for Goose Fair, and the main town streets are closed to traffic and become home for the day to market stalls, side-shows, fairground rides, food stands and general merriment.
You'll find the team from Dartmoor Brewery in the Cattle Market, which will be home to some great local producers of food, drink, arts and crafts. We'll have ale tasters for you to try, a disount on pre-Christmas beer orders via our website and retail shop, and the chance to win a stay for two at the Two Bridges Hotel. The Cattle Market section of the fair is open from 10am until 5pm - with town-centre fair attractions open until late in the evening.
When you are ready to rest your feet and enjoy a bite to eat, our colleagues at The Bedford Hotel will be offering a delicious Goose Fair Lunch Menu from 12 noon.
See you at the fair!
