Top cyclists were working up a thirst on Dartmoor last weekend, taking part in the gruelling Dartmoor Legend Sportive cycle race, sponsored by Dartmoor Brewery.
With 18,000 feet of ascent on the 200 mile Ultra course, The Dartmoor Legend is definitely not for the faint hearted. The route took cyclists around the entire perimeter of Dartmoor, and over a whole series of iconic hill climbs including Dartmeet, Doccombe, Haytor, Holne, Merrivale, Newbridge, Peak Hill, Pork Hill and Widecombe - with gradients hitting an exhausting 25% in places. For the competitors, the scenery and views of Dartmoor along the way were perhaps as breathtaking as the hills!
Congratulations to Jamie Cornfield, who completed the Ultra in just over 13.5 hours, whilst Victoria Wyeth was first female to cross the finishing line in 15 hours and 43 minutes. The shorter Leggero and Mezzofondo races were won by Paul Fletcher and Leo White respectively. Click here for the full race results.
It goes without saying that for many of the competitors, a pint of Dartmoor Legend was a welcome end to a very memorable day on Dartmoor.
