Pub of the Week: The Royal Oak, Meavy

The iconic Royal Oak Inn can be discovered in the pretty Devon village of Meavy - surrounded by glorious Dartmoor countryside, yet just a stone's throw from the maritime city of Plymouth.

It's a proper community pub, owned by the local Parish, and expertly run by Jo Rowe since she took over the business at the end of 2023.

The Royal Oak dates back to the late 15th century, and sits alongside the quintessential village green, and Meavy's famous ancient oak tree believed to be over 900 years old.

The low-beamed bar is packed with charm and character, and on a warm day you can enjoy the peaceful setting from one of the outdoor tables overlooking the green.

You'll find our famous Jail Ale and Legend on the bar - and our Dartmoor Zero by the bottle if you are looking for something full-flavoured but minus the alcohol.

Jo and the team offer a great menu of good pub food, including daily specials.

The Royal Oak is just over a mile from the beautiful Burrator Reservoir, making it the perfect spot for refreshment and sustenance after a good walk.
