Pub of the Week: The White Thorn Inn

White Thorn Inn, Shaugh Prior

For a friendly country pub that's just a stone's throw from the maritime city of Plymouth, we can highly recommend the White Thorn Inn in the charming Devon village of Shaugh Prior.

This proper, traditional pub is right at the heart of the community in Shaugh Prior, on the south-western fringes of Dartmoor.

You'll discover a fine line-up of our award-winning Dartmoor Brewery beers (including the famous and original Jail Ale, naturally), and there's some hearty homemade food on offer too.

George and Laura took over the helm at the White Thorn in 2023, after relocating back to Plymouth from Scotland. Under their stewardship, the interior has been refurbished and the outside space has been transformed into a family-friendly beer garden for the warmer months.

The White Thorn is particularly well placed for a spot of refreshment before or after a good walk. The leisurely woodland walks of the Plym Valley are less than a mile away, and Dartmoor's beautiful Burrator Reservoir is a 15 minute drive away.
