Our famous beer brand, Jail Ale, went on the run over the moors earlier this month. As part of this year's Dartmoor Firkin Challenge, plucky pairs of runners took to the moorland carrying an empty cask of Jail Ale to run 6 miles from the Royal Oak pub in Meavy to the top of Sheepstor – and back again to refresh and celebrate this time with a full cask of Jail Ale!
The event was started 3 years ago by Royal Oak landlord, Stephen Earp and has grown to be a very popular local event raising money for the Meavy Village Hall.
This year's fastest pair were James Best and Will Johnson, who smashed the course record with a time of 37.50 minutes. The fastest ladies were Heidi Davies and Rebecca McMullin with an impressive time of 48.18 mins. The winning veterans were Tom Orchard and Ken Kay.
The Dartmoor Brewery team enjoyed a brilliant day out and were pleased to sponsor the event alongside Langdon Transport, Tavy Signs and the Royal Oak.
