Pub of the Week: The Railway Inn, Churston
Do you fancy the idea of lingering over a perfect pint of Jail Ale, in a welcoming local pub, where the peace and quiet is briefly and occasionally punctuated by the atmospheric sounds of a classic steam train passing by? If so, then the Railway Inn is the very place for you.
The Railway Inn can be found, not surprisingly, next to the railway station in Churston, on the outskirts of Brixham in South Devon. The station itself isn't currently in use, but steam trains pass through on the Dartmouth Steam Railway heritage line between Paignton and Dartmouth.
This fine pub, managed by Jail Ale fanatic Mark Waters (pictured), is owned by Phil McCann, who also has the Pig and Whistle in Littlehempston, and the Church House Inn in Marldon.
The Railway Inn is a favourite with the locals, as well as with the many visitors to this popular holiday area.
The team are passionate about good, honest food, locally sourced. The main menu includes plenty of pub classics (anyone for steak and Jail Ale pie?), and there's an excellent Sunday lunch menu too, with a choice of traditional roasts.
